Resetting Your Pocket PC Phone (Soft reset)
Occasionally you may need to reset your Pocket PC Phone. A normal
(or soft) reset of your device clears all active program memory and
shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when the device is
running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A
soft reset is also necessary after the installation of some programs. If a
soft reset is performed when programs are running, unsaved work will
be lost.
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard
reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a
system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default
settings — the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it
on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you
customized on the device will be lost. Only Windows MobileTM software
and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a soft reset

* Use the stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button on the left side of your device. The device restarts and displays the Today screen.

Warning! Always turn off your device before performing a soft reset or
installing/replacing the battery and SIM card.

To perform a hard reset

1. Press and hold the Comm Manager button and Voice Command button on the device.
2. Keep the two buttons pressed, and at the same time, use the stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button.

Resetting Your Pocket PC Phone

You can perform a soft reset or a full reset. During a soft reset, the device is restarted and only some data in opened programs may be lost. However, a full reset turns the battery off, returns the device to its original factory settings, and deletes all programs, files, contacts and other information you have saved to the device. Therefore, it is extremely important to back up data to a storage card or your computer on a regular basis in the event that a full reset has to be performed.

To perform a soft reset

If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, you can soft reset it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in any opened applications may be lost. Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button, as shown on the next page.

To perform a full reset

A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, erasing all data that you have created and programs you have installed. Press and hold the power button, and then use the stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. Be sure you have backed up all your data in a SD card or on your PC before performing a full reset.

NEC

NEC MobilePro 790
Resetting the MobilePro

Occasionally you may need to reset your NEC MobilePro. For instance,
you may need to reset after restoring data from your host PC, after
modifying the MobilePro’s configuration, when you are unable to power
on using the Power button, or when the operating system stops
responding.
The NEC MobilePro is equipped with two reset buttons, designed for use
depending upon specific conditions. The two reset buttons are:
! Soft Reset Button — The soft reset button allows you to restart the
NEC MobilePro operating system while preserving any saved data.
This method is similar to a “warm boot” on your host PC.
! Full Reset Button — The full reset button restores your system to its
original shipping configuration, erasing all information that you have
entered.
Note To ensure the safety of your information at all times, you should
perform regular backups of your MobilePro information to your host PC.
For more information, see the section in Chapter 3, “Backing Up and
Restoring Data.”

Using the Soft Reset Button

Before using the soft reset button to reset the MobilePro, close any open
files or applications, if possible. When you soft reset the MobilePro, you
may lose open/unsaved files.
Follow these steps to use the soft reset button to reset the MobilePro.

1. Open the display panel and remove the stylus from its holder.
2. Power on the MobilePro.
3. Turn over the MobilePro.
4. Locate the soft reset button on the bottom of the MobilePro.
5. Using the stylus, press the soft reset button. (You may need to press
the button more than once.) This resets the unit.

Using the Full Reset Button
Use the full reset button only when your unit does not respond after doing
all of the following:
! Installing a charged battery.
! Connecting the unit to an AC power source.
! Verifying that the battery lock is in the locked position.
! Using the soft reset button to reset the system.

Using the full reset button to reset your
MobilePro returns your unit to its original shipping configuration. All data
and applications are erased from RAM. All open/unsaved files are lost and
all user specific data such as contacts, tasks, etc., are erased.
You can only restore data that has been backed up to your host PC. For
more information, see the section in Chapter 3, “Backing Up and Restoring
Data.”

The full reset button is located inside of the main battery’s bay. Follow
these steps to remove the battery before using the full reset button to reset the NEC MobilePro.

1. Open the display panel and remove the stylus from its holder.
2. Remove the battery pack as follows:
! Locate the battery lock and release latch on the bottom of the
system.
! Slide the lock to the unlocked position in the direction of the
arrow, as indicated in the following figure.
! Slide the release latch in the direction of its arrow, as indicated in
the following figure, and hold it.
! Remove the battery from the bay.

Removing the battery pack

3. Locate the full reset button inside of the battery bay, as indicated in
the following figure.

4. Using the stylus, press the full reset button. This resets the unit and
restores your system to its original shipping configuration.
You may be able to use a recent backup of your data to restore your
system to a more recent configuration. Refer to MicroSoft
ActiveSync on your host PC or the section in Chapter 3, “Backing Up
and Restoring Your Data,” for details about backing up and restoring
your MobilePro.

Reset the Pocket PC Phone and Clear Memory
You can perform a soft reset or a full reset – a soft reset restarts your device and a full reset switches the battery off. The result of a soft reset is that some data may be lost in programs that are open, however, the result of cutting power is to wipe all the data and new programs you have added, and return the device to factory setting – i.e. it will only have the software that was present when you bought it. On this basis, it is important not to think about a full reset as you would restarting, shutting down or even switching off improperly your desktop, but rather like a complete crash requiring you having to wipe your OS. The importance of backing up data to a SD card or your computer cannot be stressed enough - in the event you have to perform a full reset your data will not be lost.
To perform a soft reset:
If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly stops responding or freezes, try soft resetting it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in open windows may be lost.
• Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button.
1. Soft Reset. Press into the hole with the end of your stylus to reset your device

To perform a full reset - hard reset:
A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
1. Unscrew the stylus and use the smaller point of the top-half.

2. Press the battery switch once to turn it off, and then once more to turn it back on
